About the Event

This day will be run by Claire Speight A1 Clinical Coach, RVN, C&G Cert Nursing Exotic Species.

Do you want to update your rabbit knowledge or are you keen to learn more about rabbits, to enable you to become known as ‘the rabbit nurse’ at your practice?

During this day of CPD we will look at rabbit anaesthesia, including pre op an post-operative care, making anaesthesia safer, monitoring under GA and what to do when things start to go wrong. Following on from this we will discuss the causes of pain, signs and analgesia options, including using the Rabbit Grimace Scale (RGS).

After lunch the focus will turn to looking after rabbits admitted for care – fluid therapy, assisted feeding, housing whilst hospitalised and reducing the inevitable stress of this prey species, and how to make your practice Rabbit Friendly.

Preventative healthcare will include neutering rabbits; why and when, current vaccination recommendations, whether or not rabbits should be routinely treated for endo and ectoparasites and the reasons and how owners can be advised to health check their rabbits at home.

The last session of the day will be around running rabbit clinics, how you can set them up, what to include, the advice to give and offering weight loss plans.
